We moved to land that we owned about a year and a half ago, built a house, and have oodles of farm animals. My day now consist of feeding the animals, checking for eggs, filling up water buckets and tending to beautiful babies. We curently have 7 baby goats and 2 of them are bottle babies.

The picture above is Mama Martha and her baby Marie. We have close to 30 goats and 10 sheep. They all have names and are very loving.

Crochet has taken a back burner to farm life. I still have a couple of projects that I am working on but I am not designing right now.

J is still dealing with his illness and we finally have a good group of medicines that are keeping his seizures at a minimum. He has a few other illness things going on right now but that is just like it has always been. He is sick but he just keeps on keeping on. The stress is still huge sometimes and I have to deal with my own anger and depression that overtakes me at times. When it all just seems to much for me I go to my hammock in the woods and thank God for all that I have and listen to the sounds of nature.

So I am back now and will be blogging for my own sanity!!!

until next time.......

Ramblings from an avid crocheter, knitter, spinner, and major fiber junkie.

Its been such a long time....

Does anyone still read this blog? While I completely understand the cause behind the discussion, I often think to myself "WHO CARES!!" There have been many discussion on websites, online magazines, groups, etc. etc. I just dont seem to feel the same as others do. I love crochet and will continue to crochet whether it is viewed as low class trash, doily makin, front porch sittin, toilet set cozy makin, granny square lovin, or beautiful, innovative, one hook lovin, simple, unique and so on.

If you like crochet, great if you dont, great. I dont give a rip if it is accepted or not. I crochet because I want to. Not because it is cool, hip, or the latest fad. I love TP cozies, I think they are cute and silly. I love granny squares and have made many blankets and other items using this motif. I love lacy gorgeous scarves and shawls. I could go on and on about doilies, they are part of my heritage. Why should I run from it? Cant all forms of crochet be beautiful in there own unique way?

I posted the below comment on the discussion that is going on in the Crochet Me Blog
http://www.crochetme.com/blog

I dont have to take back crochet. It has always been mine and always will be. I make the choice to do what I want. I am not driven by others to make my decisions for me. If the yarn stores dont understand me then so what, if they snub me then I move on and find a store that understands me. Or I will suck it up and deal with it. I dont have to accepted by everyone. That is what makes me who I am.

Why must crochet be accepted by everyone? Not all of us knit but there is no knit revolution that is trying to convert the world.

Love your crochet share it with others and you will find that it will grow all on its own.

So what do you think? Am I just a throw back to the 60's with all the love, peace, and happiness? Maybe. But with all the crap that is going on in our universe, do we really need to fight about something else????

until next time......
Ramblings from an avid crocheter, knitter, spinner, and major fiber junkie.

title this......

That Girl Talks is gone, I never posted on it. I have a new blog where I will yack about my thoughts, fears, trials, tribulation, and all other things of life that don't pertain to my craft. If you want to read about me go to my yacker blog appropriately named marlodaca yacks
http://marlodaca.livejournal.com/

On the crafting front I have started to needle felt, made two purses and a duck, knitted umpteen fish, have not touched a hook for a while now, bought a sheep and a goat. Watched a sheep get sheared and I got to keep the wool.

The sheep and the goat are my daughters. They have joined FFA and I am thrilled. The sheep is named No Llamo (no name in spanish) and the goat is named Carrot Top. We have lived at the barn I now have fleece promised from 3 sheep. Soon to be more I am sure. We live at the barn and it is wonderful. The FFA kids and families are the nicest truest people I have ever met.

A few pictures.

until next time.........

Ramblings from an avid crocheter, knitter, spinner, and major fiber junkie.

fish

The cell phone camera to the rescue. Not the best quality photo but it is better than nothing. This is where I keep all the fish in progress and all of the balls of handspun yarn. My kitty likes to carry them around the house so I had to make a bag with a closure. The bag is made with 12 fish and a crocheted base and crochet around the top of the bag. A simple drawstring was woven in to close the top and two handles attached to the back turned it into a backpack.

fun fun!

until next time........
Ramblings from an avid crocheter, knitter, spinner, and major fiber junkie.

tv debut

My TV debut will be tomorrow on DIY network. Here are a few of my thoughts......

America's Got Talent- No TALENT!! except the kid who plays the harmonica. Yodel girl is cute but I can only listen to a yodel song for so long. What I think they need to add to show to liven it up is a "david hasselhoff camera" a small little blip of him in the corner of the screen all the time would rock. HE is the entertainment for me. Is he crazy or does he just love himself a whole lot.

The One: Making a Music Star- OH MY GOSH--- just about every person on this show is TONE DEAF. The judges have no clue as to what is good or not. I personally dont care if they have worked with Puffy, Ozzy, or whomever. The contestants are bad.

Big Brother- Love the show. I have watched every season and love it all. Big Brother All Stars are too cool. I was so happy that Allison went first. This is the first show that I will ever remember the first person kicked off. Only because Allison drove me nuts. Danielle need to go next . She lights my fire. Chill Town- totally stupid. Will- pale as a ghost and the creepiest doctor in the universe. Diane- cry baby. Erica- beautiful but needs some self esteem.

Supernova- Tommy Lee I love/hate you. You are soo cool and you know it. Humble yourself. Dave Navarro- eww you are too skinny. Girl with redish hair- are you able to summons the devil at any time for your beck and call? Australian guy you deserve the win. Guy with blue eyeshadow- please use some make up remover.

Master of Champions- AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Hell's Kitchen- will someone please put a sock in Sara's mouth. Why does the FORMER prisoner think he can cook. Prison kitchen clearly did not give him experience in rack of lamb, risotto, shrimp, chicken, beef, pasta, vegtables, rice, soup, fresh fruit, etc. etc. etc. Is Tuesday rack of lamb and shrimp day? If it is I am gonna find me a prison to visit for lunch.

Treasure Hunters- Geniuses- gosh your dumb. you have proven that there is a difference between street smarts and book smarts, and you flunked street smart school. Wild Hanlons- karma bit you in the butt, you should watch My name is Earl, but then again you probably wont understand it.

Good shows anyone???

until next time.........
Ramblings from an avid crocheter, knitter, spinner, and major fiber junkie.

summer hat or how many chins??

Ramblings from an avid crocheter, knitter, spinner, and major fiber junkie.

fishy pics....

A few of you have requested pictures of my fish for my fish afghan. Carmella, my sweet kitty was a great helper. She spread out all the fish for me.

Here is another view of the fish. I have spun all of this wool and it has been a joy mixing all of the colors together. It is just as fun as knitting the fish. I have made many of the fish sitting in the waiting rooms of the hospital and at doctors appointments. Only 40 more to go!!! The great thing about this blanket is that it can be added onto at any time and made larger.

Several balls of wool that will be made into fish and one in progress. It has been so long since the taping I was beginning to wonder if it was all a dream. Well I guess my dream is finally coming true. One of my shows will be on TV on August 7th. Here is the link to the description http://www.diynetwork.com Search for Marlo and you will find my episode.

I can hardly believe that my name is on the DIY website. I am quite nervous about watching myself on TV. It will be very odd. I am sure I will critique the heck out of myself.

Things are better with my husband. His medicine seems to be working really well and he has not had any seizures for about 4 weeks.

I have been working like crazy on my fish afghan. I have made 40 fish and need 80 for the afghan. I have chose to spin all of the yarn that is used in this afghan so it is taking a bit longer than it should. I also hand dyed most of the wool. The colors are gorgeous and I can't wait to put it together.

until next time........
Ramblings from an avid crocheter, knitter, spinner, and major fiber junkie.

coma #2

Sunday the seizures began and I thought they would go away. They did for a bit. Monday it all started again and we were back in the hospital. The put J. back into a coma around 10 that night. Although he was in a coma he was more awake on tuesday. Would open his eyes and moved a bit. They woke him up on Wednesday. He came home on Friday. I cant even believe that this happened again. It hurts so bad. The doctor told us that J. is only the second patient that he has ever seen that has had to be put in a coma to stop the seizures. What a crappy statistic.

He is home but not feeling so good. He had pneumonia, a collapsed lung, and two blood clots in his lungs from being on the ventilator. He is very weak and tired. Things are slowly improving. A small scare on March 24th (my birthday, fun fun) we had to go back to the hospital and he had to get a vitamin K shot. He had an anticoagulant overdose and was in joepardy of bleeding out spontaneously. yikes. It is better now. Still strugling with some other problems so we spend most of our days giving blood or visiting doctors.

Things are looking up, no seizures in 2 weeks. Still in ICU he has pneumonia, his lungs are a bit flat at the bottom from being on the ventillator, he also has two blood clots in his lungs. The doctors hope to move him in the next couple of days to the PCU wings. We have a long road ahead of us. He is weak and tired. He is still having a few seizures. Not bad ones, but still having a few.

Please continue to pray for the doctor's to have wisdom to know how to treat his seizures and that he will continue to improve.

I fear the unending seizures will come again. They cut into my soap opera's and favorite TV shows. All the other TV stations have Olympics envy and play the worst shows and TV movies. How many times can they show Big Momma's house?? Then they show reruns for every other show. Everyone wears those goofy berets. I have to listen to how Michelle Kwan is trying for the gold just one more time. I just don’t care. The Olympics invades everything on TV. The Today show is all about Olympics and so is the local news. David Letterman is even delayed sometimes because of the dreaded Olympics. Not only are the Olympics on NBC there are oodles of other stations who think they need to show us the same stupid ice skating and curling events. Yea skating is an art. Bruce Jenner has made me realize that not all men should skate. He looks like Frankenstein skating on that horrible Skating with the Stars/Has Beens show on Fox. But curling just isn't all that interesting. A block of cement and a broom. Wow now that is the sport of a drunken man. My neighbor used to play this stupid game with large washers and a wooden box with holes. It was a drunk mans sport. The drunker you got the better you got at the game. This is what curling is like, drink a lot and you will be able to get that blob of cement where you want it to be. I thought the washer game was bad but then I saw curling.

So needless to say that when all the talk of knitting/crochet Olympics popped up on everyone’s blog I cried a little inside. WHY WHY WHY!!!! I am all for getting a project done in a timely manner, setting high goals and achieving them but WHY with the Olympics?? So in honor of hating the Olympics and all that they entail, I plan on making a freeform shawl in blues during this event. Yes, I know I am joining with the masses but I am also making something BLUE. Blue with sadness for all the great TV that I could be watching but can't.

So are there any others out there like me??? Am I the only one who won’t be watching?? If so leave me a comment. I will draw a name from the Olympic Despiser list and will send you a prize. Picture of the prize tomorrow.

until next time.....

p.s. any of you fabulous readers want to make a button for my "Don't watch the Olympics -a- long" ???? It is worked with a crochet hook and is fun and mindless. So far I have made a rug and hot pad. Pictures soon if I ever get my camera and desktop computer working again.

Stitch and chat is tomorrow night and I have never been. I am thinking of going if I can escape my family. I need to talk to others who craft. Need some inspiration. Maybe a journal of my finished items would help me stay motivated.

I have been looking at my hobbies a lot lately. Trying to understand them. Many times I wonder why I knit and crochet. I cant imagine making one more scarf, hat, shawl, etc. etc. I wonder how many I need and how many I can give as gifts. My yarn stash is out of control. I have way to much. I sometimes want to pitch it all and start over. Is this just the duldrums?? Am I just bored? I think I need a challenge. Sock knitting, cables, a sweater, something different.

My so called "career" in fiber arts has turned out way different than I thought it would be. I was on a personal high after filming the TV shows for DIY network. All plans for a future career were looking up. I started to sell my patterns to yarn stores. I had teaching opportunities. I had publishing opportunities. All things were saying "go for it, you can do this." But then all things changed. Illness plagued my family. Horrible illness. My career came to a screeching halt. All plans put on hold. All engagements were off. Keeping up with the day to day business was difficult. I am still trying to catch up.

New goals.

1. Organize

2. Prioritize

3. Be thankful for the little things.

4. When an opportunity comes along approach it reasonably.

5. Make ME happy with my craft.

6. Challenge myself.

7. Give away half of my yarn stash.

until next time.......

Ramblings from an avid crocheter, knitter, spinner, and major fiber junkie.

better????

I am finally getting back to slightly normal events. I have no idea why. I got the worst flu that I have ever had. A day by day account of my adventure for your pleasure.

Christmas eve eve (as my kids call it) - scratchy throat, irritating cough, horrible nights sleep

Christmas Eve- no energy, annoying cough, popping cough drops like candy, energy is being sucked out of me quickly, sneezing alot and mild upset stomach.

Christmas- God gave me enough energy to open presents with my girls, I then laid on the couch and fell asleep, I had no strength to go to my parents. My body aches, my head feels like someone is carving it with a knife, acid is running down my nose cavities. I cant remember what feeling good feels like.

Day after Christmas- I want to sink into the ground, I cant function. It is all I can do to get up and go to the bathroom. I cant get out of bed. My head hurts so bad I think it might pop off my body. The body aches are overwhelming. my cough has left and that can only mean one thing, a secondary infection. I continually pray for God to help me make it and to spare my family. A very strong prescription pain medicine doesnt even dent the headache. Continued sweats and fever. I cant take it.

2nd day after Christmas- A deseperate call to the doctor at 7:58 am. thank God, they answer. I have an apponitment at 11:15. The cough is back and so is the stuff that is in my lungs. Not good. My breathing machine and I will be visiting with one another. The headache is so severe. I get a shot and an antibiotic. He says that my lungs are full and am wheezing. Husband and daughter now have the flu. I can ony hope that getting them medicine early will help them out. I lay on the couch and pop 2 different pain pills. Finally some relief. Body still hurts. I was actually able to sit up for a couple of hours.

3rd day after Christmas- Still feel like crap. Body aches still going strong, coughing up nasty stuff. Sitting up longer. Wondering how long this flu will last.

until next time......
Ramblings from an avid crocheter, knitter, spinner, and major fiber junkie.

gotta talk

2005 Radio Music Awards - My thoughts.....

Ricky Martin you can grind your hips and dance with the sexy girl all you want but we all know what you are about....

Keith Urban you are my favorite Aussie so why must you go and date Nicole Kidman?? I will try. A little lesson in plumbing is sure to perk up the mood right?? This is my water heater. The IDIOTS who did the plumbing for my house added the shut off valve but decided not to hook it up. Soooooo when the water heater decided to shoot hot water out the over flow valve on the side of my house I could not shut off the water heater. So before this happens to you, check the valve and make sure it works.

until next time.........
Ramblings from an avid crocheter, knitter, spinner, and major fiber junkie.

sadness

My poor baby Rufus had to be put to sleep tonight. I love this knitty pattern http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall05/PATTflora.html and want it in crochet, so I have worked up a cute little scarf that I am calling Dalia. The center of the flower is the "button" to close the scarf. I already need to make a few for family. They work up super fast and only use one skein of yarn too. This little scarf also hides my double chin, if only I could wear it in the summer time :-)

I have gotten quite a few emails regarding my last post about my frustration with the crochet community. Thanks to those of you who read through my anger and wrote me kind and caring notes. Dealing with an illness is taxing, it wears on my soul. I will stay around, and let the negativity roll off my back. My designing will again be my focus point so expect some more patterns on my site. Most will be free. The business side of me is just not there any more.

I have a few things that I can cross off my list of 100 things that I want to do but dont think it will ever happen list.

1- riding in the front seat of an ambulance at 85 miles an hour
2- getting a private room at a hospital and being happy about it

We were back in the hospital on Monday, it was a really bad day. 17 seizures in 3 hours. How much can a body handle? How much can I handle?

My grandmother who is 90 fell on Monday night and broke her hip. She had surgery today and will be in ICU stepdown for a day. Her hip was repaired and she will be able to move again. I once again was in the hospital today.

until next time...........
Ramblings from an avid crocheter, knitter, spinner, and major fiber junkie.

perspective

The above picture is my new kitty Carmella guarding my wool for me and the other picture is some wool that I have spun on my new wheel. Computers, crochet and knit communities, business, and all things creative are not important anymore. I won't be around much. I may pop in every once and a while and talk but dont expect it.

I have enjoyed the time that I have had with my "so called career" but am giving it up for my family. Then you just might see my plastic bag purse http://www.marloscrochetcorner.com/Plastic%20Bag%20tote.html in their science book. But I have also seen a different side and I dont know if I want to be a part of it.

Until next time.........
Ramblings from an avid crocheter, knitter, spinner, and major fiber junkie.

finally

Finally an answer. It has to be so depressing. I know that it is depressing. I was ill last year and have since found out what was wrong with me and feel 100 times better. My hubby on the other hand has been ill for a while now and the general answer after every test is "no problem found". Oh how I hate that answer. The number of tests that he has had is astounding. The last test he did was the Camera Pill http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2004/01/040107073734.htm . The pill is amazing. If only it can find the problems. If not it sure was an expensive test to have the doctor tell us the ususal "no problem found".

Unfortunately the illness is keeping me from teaching my class tomorrow at the Knit out and Crochet too event. What a bummer.

I think that this illness has a lot to do with my lack of sharing my craft adventures. I have so many to share but just dont feel like it. Hopefully soon.

A little tid bit of what I am working on is my new Ashford Traditional Spinning wheel. Yep I did it. I bought a wheel. I love it. My Grandparents lived in Franklinton, Louisiana. When we would drive in to the city we would go over Lake Ponchatrain. The bridge is really long and noisy, I can still remember the cla clunk, cla clunk, cla clunk, sound driving in my grandparent big old tan colored car. My grandmother would always remind us that if we had to go to the bathroom she had a blow up toilet in the trunk and my Grandpa would be happy to pull over if we had to pee. Thankfully my sister and I knew how to hold it for the ride.

Cafe Du Monde http://www.cafedumonde.com/ was the first place that we would go once we arrived. We would eat a huge plate of Beignets http://www.cafedumonde.com/beignet.html .

Later on we would go and watch the ships. That was Grandpa's favorite thing to do. Walking up and down Bourbon street was always entertaining. On one of our trips there was a man walking down the street in a diaper and blue clown wig. Weird... We always visted a shop that sold the best pecan pralines and then we went to the Italian Deli. We would always buy a big bowl of Giardiniera Mix. This is the best vegtable and olive mix in the world. We would eat so much that we would finish it before we got back to the car.

I love New Orleans, the people, the music, the entertainers on every street corner, the food and the memories. I am deeply saddened for the entire city. The pictures on the news are horrible. I cant believe what I am seeing, and I can't look away.

Please do what you can to help out, donate what you can and pray.

The lack of assistance to those who didn't evacuate is horrible. They want water and food. The local government let the citizens down. Harry Connick Jr. http://www.hconnickjr.com/ said that he could load up a truck with water and take it to the people at the convention center and be there in an hour. But the "officials" said it wasn't safe. Ridiculous. These people want to live, all they want is help. Food. Water. Kindness. Help. Relief. Life.

Congress should not have to come back early from their vacation to get these people the water that they need to survive.

until next time..............

Have you seen the little boy who has the Sponge Bob shirt on and is talking about his 76 year old diabetic grandma? He will be in politics when he grows up. I wanted to listen to every word he had to say.
